About these Beautiful ‘Restoration Roman’ Fonts
Our hand made House numbers are completely different to anything else in the design marketplace.
By far more refined than ‘off the shelf’ fonts used by others.
One of many reasons why our numbers look so special… just perfectly balanced in every tiny detail.

HERITAGE HOUSE NUMBERS — OUR ULTIMATE GOLD LEAF OPTION
The Premium Heritage Choice
For London properties where craftsmanship matters, gold leaf house numbers represent the pinnacle of traditional lettering. They’re not decoration — they’re investment in permanence, presence, and prestige.
Why Gold Leaf?
Gilded numerals catch light in ways that painted alternatives simply cannot. Against period masonry, render, or timber, gold leaf creates visual depth and sophistication. It signals we cared enough to do this properly — the same ethos that defined Victorian craftsmanship across London’s heritage neighbourhoods.
Gold leaf endures. Properly sealed, it resists weathering far better than standard paint. It develops a subtle patina over time, deepening rather than degrading — becoming more dignified with age, not less.
Our Gold Leaf Process
- Surface preparation — we assess your property’s material (stone, render, brick, timber, metal) and prepare accordingly
- Design & scale — numbers are hand-drawn to site, accounting for viewing distance, architectural detail, and spatial hierarchy
- Application — traditional gold leaf is laid by hand, not printed or vinyl-applied
- Sealing — protective finish ensures longevity without compromising the lustre
Complementary Colours
Gold leaf works brilliantly with:
- Dark masonry or render — maximum contrast and visual presence
- Period stonework — echoes Victorian and Edwardian gilt traditions
- Timber surrounds — particularly effective on gate piers, pillars, and transoms
- Navy or heritage black backgrounds — creates formal, authoritative aesthetic
Most Popular London Front Door Colours
Gold leaf house numbers pair exceptionally well with London’s classic front door palette:
| Colour | Character | Best With |
|---|---|---|
| Heritage Black | Formal, traditional, timeless | Period properties, Georgian/Victorian |
| Navy Blue | Sophisticated, modern-classic | Regency, contemporary heritage |
| Burgundy / Oxblood Red | Warm, distinctive, period-authentic | Victorian, Edwardian townhouses |
| Racing Green | Elegant, literary London | Period properties, Chelsea/Fulham |
| Charcoal | Contemporary, subtle | Modern interventions, listed properties |
| Deep Teal | Contemporary heritage | Eclectic, design-forward properties |
The combination of gold leaf numerals + heritage-coloured front door is the gold standard for London properties. It reads as intentional, curated, and permanent.
Installation & Longevity
Gold leaf work is bespoke — no two installations are identical because every property is different. We hand-paint to site, measure light conditions, and position numerals to complement your property’s specific architecture.
Once installed, gold leaf requires minimal maintenance. Annual checks for any seal degradation; re-sealing every 5–7 years depending on exposure. That’s it. It will outlast the paint on your front door by decades.
Ready to Commission?
Gold leaf house numbers are made to order. We work from site photographs, measurements, and your colour preferences. Contact us via WhatsApp with your postcode and front door colour — we’ll provide a brief and quote – lead times are 7-14 days.
Because some things deserve pure craftsmanship.

Handcrafted font numerals are individually drawn and refined by hand, offering a level of character, balance, and authenticity that simply cannot be achieved with standard off-the-shelf digital fonts such as Adobe etc.
Inspired by traditional signwriting and historic lettering styles, each number is played and teased into shape by the brush: carefully proportioned to suit the surrounding architecture, scale, retaining detailing from the swept forms of period property or any rare signature context locally.

THE BEAUTY OF GOLD
Way before the letter is painted on site, every curve, serif, stroke width, and spacing detail undergoes dozens of rounds of drafting in the studio, in order to create a finished form that feels correct, timeless, elegant, and aesthetically complete.
Style over fashion ensures that unlike low budget mass-produced vinyl or computer-generated lettering, our restoration fonts retain real craftsmanship that give all our designs, a rich sensuality and timeless aura. It comes from 3 generations of letter-carving and painting. Our hand-painted lettering has warmth, it’s own voice and resonant iconic distinction.
And when it’s raining, or we are not on site, we’re to be found in the studio drawing, painting, vectorising or writing about our incredible Archive Type Collection, constantly at the work bench, desk or easel.

The result is sets of letters and numbers that always sit perfectly within their surroundings. Each carries the grail of true quality, long associated with out forefathers, and finest exponents of Traditional London signwriting.
There are no quick fix gimics in these processes, just love and dedication to detail.
This uncommon touch and attention to detail is one of the many reasons why NGS numbers and lettering appear so vital, alive and distinctive in the flesh.
Made to stand worlds apart from any standard competitor reproductions. With Love.
